My Mother's Legacy
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”—1 Peter 4:10
Growing up, Iremember my mother was always there—vocal, strong, and fighting for the rights and dignity of children who were deaf and blind. Born in 1934, the youngest of fourteen children, she was a college graduate and a fierce advocate.
It wasn’t until I became an adult that I realized the strength behind her actions. My mother wasn’t just a voice for those who couldn’t speak for themselves—she was a force standing firm in her commitment to serve others. Her courage and advocacy laid the foundation for everything I’ve achieved.
She taught me, without even knowing it, what it means to fight for justice, to lead with conviction, and to live with purpose.
The apostle Peter admonishes believers to share their gifts—from hospitality to gracious attitudes to whatever other way we can serve others. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10).
My mother’s influence and gifts were like oil poured out, permeating every part of my life. When God blesses us with a gift, He expects us to share it with others; sharing our gifts brings God glory and helps providefor Hispeople.
God blessed my mother with the gift of unwavering commitment to justice and service because He knew that one day, I would model her character to become the leader I am today. May you use your gifts in the sameway.

About this Plan

Community. It’s when we come together, draw strength from one another, and celebrate how God has sustained us through the ups and downs of life. We’re better together, and we’re grateful for those who have inspired and mentored us, enabling us to grow and share that wisdom with others. In these 28 stories, Our Daily Bread and VOICES writers reflect on how others have impacted their lives and shaped their faith in ways they will never forget.
