Unity in Our Community

DAY 4 OF 7

Family Reunion

“With your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.” —Revelation 5:9

Going to Little Rock, Arkansas, for our family reunion was an exotic adventure. As a kid from California, I might as well have been going to a foreign country. I couldn’t understand my cousins’ Southern accent, and they made fun of my West Coast accent. Up to that point, I didn’t know I had one. Still, we loved each other and connected because we’re family. We all shared the same blood.

Revelation 5:9-10 talks about the ultimate family reunion in heaven. The Scripture says there will be people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. They’ll all gather around to worship the Lamb who sits on the throne and who purchased us with His own blood.

All those gathered there may not look or talk exactly the same, but we’re family—brothers and sisters in Christ. Because, we are created to “be a kingdom and priests to serve our God.” (v. 10)

Believers in Jesus may belong to different church denominations or emphasize certain beliefs more than others. They may think differently about politics or how to raise kids. But the one thing we do have in common is that we’ve been bought with the blood of his Son and adopted into His family.

As Jesus helps us, let’s treat each other that way always as we anticipate our big forever reunion.

Ramon Mayo

What causes you to keep some believers in Jesus at a distance? How can you love fellow believers who are different than you?

Father, I thank You for making everybody who turns away from sin and believes in Jesus Your sons and daughters in Your heavenly family. I ask that You help me to treat others like Your children, especially those who look, talk, or think differently than me.

About this Plan

Unity in Our Community

Community. It’s when we come together, draw strength from one another, and celebrate how God has sustained us through the ups and downs of life. We’re better together, and we’re grateful for those who have inspired and mentored us, enabling us to grow and share that wisdom with others. In these 28 stories, Our Daily Bread and VOICES writers reflect on how others have impacted their lives and shaped their faith in ways they will never forget.
