Redeeming Reign

DAY 5 OF 5

DAY 5: THE CURE

The cure has always been, is still today, and will forever be the grace, forgiveness, and mercy of Jesus Christ. If you’ve been a Christian for any length of time, you know that there is no earthly cure for our sin nature and, until we leave this body to go home, we will continue to be selfish, broken, depraved sinners. Really read it with the conviction and resolve that exposes who we really are without a gracious Savior, a lost humanity. However, the good news of the Gospel says we are not condemned to stay that way. We don’t have to be our own antidote and cure to our own disease. The bloodshed at the cross was and is the salve that soothes pain and mends brokenness. The risen Savior who conquered death and the tomb proves to be our daily source of strength and peace.

We are not responsible for ‘fixing’ ourselves. The cure is simple, but not easy. It is the prescription of a daily dose consisting of prayer, scripture, humility, gratitude, and obedience. While we’re not burdened with the responsibility of the cure or the results, we are absolutely accountable for the choices required to reflect the character of Christ. We are called to choose behavior that is antithetical to our natural reflex desires. Our flesh is our enemy. We must resist it and crucify it daily. It must be a conscious decision to think counterintuitively to the cultural narrative being shoved down our throats. 'Pop Culture' is just that: popular in our culture. Mostly, principles, morals, and standards we see in today's society are not aligned with Godly virtues. What we see as "common" rarely reflects Biblical character. Although unpopular, there is an alternative, a cure if you will, for overcoming shame and the condemnation of our own cautionary tale. We don't have to fall in line with the rest of the world. We can, and should, choose to swim upstream against the current of the popular social standard.

Part of the disease is a failure to resist the so-called ‘normalcy’ the world offers. Although God’s final prognosis is a full recovery once we experience eternity, His treatment on this side of Heaven remains overwhelmingly successful and readily available for all who call out to Him. He has prescribed a tandem that is eternally therapeutic. Both Jesus as our Lord and the Holy Spirit as our guiding comforter remain undefeated. Nothing the enemy uses against us will prevail (Isaiah 54:17). Satan’s attempts to render our souls septic will all fall futile. The cancer of our past failures, offenses, violations, sin, lies, and betrayals has no place in our present and future when we are in Christ. Submission and surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ is our complete roadmap to remission. Our Heavenly Father is the great physician for all affliction and trauma, physical or otherwise. Your next chapter of victory begins today.
