Have you ever noticed how much trouble people can get into when they don’t have anything to do? Idle time is often difficult, because we were not created to waste time. God intended for His children to be engaged in a task. You were created with a purpose!

Many Christians get into trouble when they hold the wrong beliefs about their purpose. Some people believe that their purpose is to be comfortable, successful, wealthy, married, etc. These are not bad things. In fact, God wants these good things for His children, but by themselves, they are certainly not your purpose.

The disciples loved Jesus dearly. They had witnessed His death and resurrection, and they believed that He was the Messiah, the Son of God. What they did not know fully was how to love and serve Christ when He left. They did not fully understand their purpose. And so, in Matthew 28:19-20 Christ gave His disciples what is known as the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you… ”

Don’t be confused about your purpose. Your purpose is to preach the gospel of Christ and to disciple other Christians!

Today, ask God to help you believe in His purpose for you. Pray that God will give you the grace to obey the Great Commission and fulfill His purpose in you.
