Wisdom in Words
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence resides in the mouth of the wicked. Proverbs 10:11
Today I want to propose a mental exercise for you, people of God. For a moment, reflect on the words that came out of your mouth this past week — everything you said to those close to you, what you spoke in your prayers, and the statements you made about your own life.
Now imagine that these words were transformed into a great banquet: a table set with everything you declared. Can you picture it? Then answer this: if your words were turned into food, would they nourish or poison those who tasted them?
This exercise is meant to help you reflect and understand the weight of what you speak — to others, about others, and about yourself. The Bible, our manual for life, says that our words can be a source of life or death; it all depends on how we use our tongue.
If it does not edify, does not teach, does not strengthen, and does not encourage — in other words, if it does not nourish — then what is the purpose of speaking?
There is also a profound power in silence.
