Day Five // Reading: Romans 8:28
Devotional
“And we know that God causes everything to work togetherfor the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
— ROMANS 8:28, NLT
Here’s a promise for us to stand on today. Releasing what we’ve done wrong and embracing our identity in God comes through trusting God, grabbing ahold of His Word, and surrendering to Him in all we do. In that process, He helps us exchange our thoughts with His thoughts of us.
God promises that He will cause EVERYTHING to work together for good for those who love Him. He doesn’t say SOME things. He doesn’t say: “Everything that’s not a really big mistake in your life will work together for good.” He says ALL things. This means the good, the bad, the ugly—all things will work together for good in your life when you love Him.
The word “good” implies that good will happen whether we see it or not. Here’s where trusting in God’s Word is so important. Your situation might not look good right now. You may have epically failed (we all do), but trust God will use it for a good purpose in the future as you follow Him. Goodness also means that God will give us the power we need to walk with faith in Him and make the right choices.
This promise is for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. The word “love” here means that we embrace God’s will for our lives and obey Him through His power. It’s a choice that we have to honor Him above our own preferences, thoughts, or feelings. This is God’s invitation for you, His daughter, to believe and receive the gift of salvation through Jesus.
Not only does God invite us to receive His salvation—not by any merit of our own, but because we are given the power to believe and love God—but on top of that, God promises to work all things together for good in your life.
May this promise fuel you in your identity as you move forward. As you love God with your whole heart, rest in the fact that He is working behind the scenes for your good.
Prayer: Father, I trust that You have the power to work all things together for good in my life. Thank You that it’s not by my strength that I need to accomplish this—but it’s all through You. I love You.
Question: What do I need God to turn around for good in my life?
