Day Six // Reading: Hebrews 11:1-6
Devotional
“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see … It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”
— HEBREWS 11:1 & 6, NLT
I want to help grow your faith today. When we carry the weight of our successes or failures on our shoulders, it’s like a bucket of water tossed over an open fire. It can dim our faith in God. But faith, sweet daughter, is what fuels our trusting relationship with God. It is a quality that pleases God. Faith is trusting not only in what Jesus did for the world by dying on the cross for our sins, but believing that God still has the power to change our lives from the inside out today.
So, what do you need faith for today? Remember, faith isn’t something that you can just accomplish on your own. It’s believing that Someone greater than yourself has the power to change your life – specifically, God. Let’s throw the applause of success out the window. Let’s toss the shame of failure in the trash. And let’s just commit to believe in God.
I’m sure many of you have heard of the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5. They are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. These are qualities that, when you surrender your life to Jesus, He wants to develop in you through the power of the Holy Spirit.
This word “faithfulness” here doesn’t mean that you are going to be unwaveringly committed to people in your life. It doesn’t mean you will never miss a game, practice, or rehearsal at school—it’s not that type of faithfulness. In this passage, it means to be faith-filled. It means that God will give you the ability to believe Him in faith all the days of your life. You will stay full of faith for your past. You will stay drenched in faith for your present. And you will be confidently full of faith in God for the future ahead.
Remember, even if you can’t see everything that God is doing with your eyes, trust that He has your best interest at heart. Faith doesn’t mean we will understand everything. Faith implies that even though we can’t see it, we can have confidence in our hope and choose to trust God.
Let’s decide that we will live our lives full of faith in God.
Prayer: God, help me to stay faith-filled for You. Not filled up with faith in myself or what I can or cannot do, but filled up with faith in You. Thank You, Father.
Question: Where in my life can I start believing God in faith?
