Kong Hee: Learning To Love

DAY 4 OF 5

Is Your Love Striking The Right Notes?

First Corinthians 13 is a very popular passage of Scripture. You might have heard it read during a wedding ceremony. Many couples choose to have this passage read because it speaks of how love should be central in everything we do.

Most of the activities of life will one day come to an end. Some activities are important right now, others are not, but Scripture teaches that nearly everything we are involved in on this earth will one day be completed or discarded … only love will remain.

Why will love remain? Because God is love. You might say that the original fabric of this world, or that which coursed through everything when God first created the world, was love, and because God will never cease, neither will love.

In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul teaches that without love, all of our spiritual activities are empty. He describes all activity that is not done in love as a loud gong or clanging cymbals. To put that into perspective, imagine your daily life as a song being written for God. When you commit an action, even something good like taking a meal to a homeless person, but you don’t do it in love, you have just struck a wrong note. In place of a beautiful piece of music to be offered to God, you hit a giant gong with a hammer instead! This is the image Paul gives us for actions not done in love.

Prayer for the Day:

The music crafted by actions done in love will endure for all of eternity and will forever be offered to our God who is love. So today, ask God to graciously infuse each of your activities with genuine love.

About this Plan

Kong Hee: Learning To Love

Love is the greatest message of the gospel! True love gives of itself continually and we are called to love others as Christ has loved us—however difficult that might be. Learn what it means to love the way Christ did. And be blessed knowing that God loves you, in spite of all you may have done!
