When God Turns Wilderness into Fruitfulness
What if the most barren place in your life is where God wants to move next?
After the call to return, Joel’s message shifts. Where there was loss and devastation, God begins to speak life: “Do not be afraid… the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green” (Joel 2:22). This is the language of reversal.
The wilderness in Joel was real devastation. Yet God declares that fruitfulness is returning. Trees will bear fruit again. The land will flourish again. This is what God’s victory looks like: intentional restoration.
Wilderness seasons still come. Spiritual dryness. Emotional exhaustion. Relational strain. Financial pressure. These places can feel lifeless, yet God is not intimidated by barren ground. He specializes in bringing growth where nothing seems possible.
God’s reclaim does not return things to neutral. He restores to flourishing. What was stripped bare begins to thrive again because God intervenes.
If you’re standing in a wilderness today, hear this promise: God is at work even now. He is causing fruit to grow again where hope felt lost.
Prayer
Lord, breathe life into the barren places in me. Help me trust You in the wilderness and recognize the signs of new growth. Amen.
Today’s Action
Name your wilderness. Then speak Joel 2:22 over it in your own words.
