Giant-Killing Faith
David was an extraordinary figure in the Bible. He was raised in loneliness, spending all day tending to sheep in the countryside. He was neglected by his family and repeatedly betrayed by those closest to him. Most people would be defeated by such painful circumstances, but instead, David lived an incredibly victorious life!
While David was still a boy, he killed both a lion and a bear in order to protect his flock. Not long after that, David found himself on the frontline of a battlefield facing the Philistine army and the warrior giant, Goliath. Without a moment’s hesitation, David fought and defeated Goliath with a few smooth stones and a sling. These victories would be incredible for anyone, but when you remember what a painful life David experienced, these victories seem unbelievable!
What was David’s secret? How did he accomplish such amazing feats? He answers this question in Psalms 46:1 where he writes, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
David didn’t rely on his own strength and abilities. He relied on God’s power. David knew that no matter what happened in his life, God would take care of him. David’s strength was in the object of his faith, God.
When your faith is placed wholly in God, you can do anything. God wants to shape your faith in Him into the kind of giant-killing faith that David had, and like David, God wants you to live a life of incredible victory for His glory!
Prayer for the day:
Today, thank God for being your refuge and strength. Ask God to give you giant-killing faith and enable you to live a life that brings glory to His name.
