Purpose Terminator
God has a plan and a purpose for each one of us. We each had a purpose before God even formed us in the womb! (Jer 1:5, Jer 29:11)
The devil also has a plan and purpose for us! He wants nothing more than to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10) He finds many seemingly "innocent and fun" things to completely destroy the purpose that God has for us. It always starts small. Sin is that way. A little here, a little there, and next thing you know, you're completely engulfed in it and are wondering how in the world you went that deep and far into it. Sin will take you farther than you ever intended to go, will keep you there longer than you intended to stay, and cost you way more than you wanted to pay!
The truth is that anything that drags you away from God's purpose and plan for your life is sin. It can be overindulgence of just about anything. Even good things...food, TV, games, luxuries, study of a worthy topic, time away...even ministry. These things can quickly and easily become idols when they take the place of your love for God and your purpose in God; they keep you away from your FIRST Love (God). Revelation 2 tells us this (Amplified Version):
But I have this [charge] against you, that you have left your first love [you have lost the depth of love that you first had for Me]. So remember the heights from which you have fallen, and repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, your sinful behavior—seek God’s will] and do the works you did at first [when you first knew Me]; otherwise, I will visit you and remove your lampstand (the church, its impact) from its place—unless you repent.
Can you see where screens/apps/games can be detrimental to your future, your destiny, and your purpose? They are purpose terminators! Let today be the day that you choose to exercise better self-control and repent and turn away. They are not all 100% bad... but they have far too much influence in our lives and pull us away from The One True God.
PRAYER:
Jesus, forgive me for all things that I have allowed to pull me away from You and Your purpose for me. Give me a strong ability in the Fruit of self-control, so that I may have a healthy, minimal relationship with technology and anything that is not your plan for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
About this Plan
Our world is moving so fast, with knowledge increasing rapidly, to the point of major distraction. Our phones, computers, and technology in general are robbing us of our joy, attention, and affections. God never meant for us to be so consumed with these things. He wants us consumed with Him. How can we get a hold of these addictions to apps & internet sites that are corrupting our minds, hearts, spirits, and emotions? With this plan, we will take a tour of the steps to effectively practice app-stinence and live a life that honors God, instead!
