App-Stinence

DAY 5 OF 6

Dull Ears

It's astounding, the magnitude of deaf ears, blinded eyes, and stone-cold hearts that surround this Earth today. Jesus mapped out all the needed instructions to prevent us from being blind, deaf, and dumb to The Truth.

Galatians 5:16 (AMP Version) shows us this:

But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].

Those instructions can prevent us from being engulfed in satan's plan to steal, kill, and destroy through distractions. We are told to walk in the Holy Spirit constantly here. If we seek Jesus and respond to His guidance, we will not be entangled in these addictions.

When the distractions are given the power to entangle us and keep us "busy," then our ears are dulled, and we cannot hear God's voice. God's voice, we are told in the story of Elijah, can be a still, small voice. (1 Kings 19:12) How much harder is it to hear from God when we are too distracted? What if you're waiting on a prayer to be answered, but you are too preoccupied to actually hear Him and receive the instruction? What if all that is standing in your way of receiving a miracle is your willingness to FOCUS on Jesus instead of the worldly matters?

It's time to unstop those ears so that we can hear! (Mark 4:9)

Need ideas to start this process?

  • Set aside a time every day to study God's Word and be faithful to it.
  • Pray continually, throughout the day. Give God time to respond, listen, and obey.
  • Put the phones, computers, and TV's on silent/off at scheduled times each day and develop the habit of App-Stinence! Find other worthy things to do!
  • Get outside. Take a nature prayer walk (without your phone) and look for God in creation!
  • Ask God to bless your efforts of app-stinence and to let you hear His voice.
  • Call a friend, family member, or neighbor, or go see them, and keep the devices away from that time.
  • Serve! Find a worthwhile cause to serve, person/s to serve, and give of your time, energy, efforts, and funds. Do this without allowing device distraction to ruin the good that you are doing.

As you can see, there are steps you can take to lessen the weight that clings so closely to you and prevents you from running the race God has set before you, effectively!

About this Plan

App-Stinence

Our world is moving so fast, with knowledge increasing rapidly, to the point of major distraction. Our phones, computers, and technology in general are robbing us of our joy, attention, and affections. God never meant for us to be so consumed with these things. He wants us consumed with Him. How can we get a hold of these addictions to apps & internet sites that are corrupting our minds, hearts, spirits, and emotions? With this plan, we will take a tour of the steps to effectively practice app-stinence and live a life that honors God, instead!
