DAY 4 OF 7

Defined by Him

“Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.” —Deuteronomy 8:3 CSB

Our culture constantly tells us who we are. It tells us to focus on what’s wrong with us, what needs to be improved. It tells us we are hard to love, that we are difficult to be around. It tries to define us, discouraging us and keeping us right where we are. These are all lies! Instead, let’s remind ourselves today what the Lord says about us and to us, what “comes from the mouth of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 8:3 CSB).

He says:

  • You are never alone (Isaiah 41:10). God will never leave you. Even when you face times of loneliness and fear, He is right there beside you. He is your Comforter.
  • You are complete and whole in Him (Colossians 2:10). You are not deficient; you were not created wrong. You are not lacking anything, and you are beloved just as you are.
  • You are forgiven (1 John 2:12). You are not, and have never been, beyond God’s forgiveness. Nothing you can do will change this.
  • You are accepted (Romans 15:7). Christ does not reject you; He receives you. Even if you have faced rejection in the past, you will not face it in your relationship with Him.
  • You are healed (Psalm 30:2). As He walks alongside you in your pain, Christ is also a healer. You are not your wounds, your illness, or your situation.
  • You have the strength to face your trials (Romans 8:37). In this life you will face difficult situations and seasons, but you are empowered by God to persevere. God describes you as a conqueror.
  • You are safe and secure in Christ (Colossians 3:3). Through your relationship with Christ, you have secured eternity in heaven. Not only that, but you are safe to be who you are in the present moment. Your security does not lie in this world.

When we work to replace the lies trying to infiltrate our heart with these truths, we are reminded just what being created in His image means. Today, pick one of these affirmations and commit it to memory. You are defined by God, not by the world.

Embracing Wholeness: I am defined by the unchanging truth of Christ’s love and acceptance, not by the constantly evolving standards of the world around me. I am whole in Christ.

About this Plan

Already Whole

It’s one thing to know you’re made in the image of God. It’s another thing to believe it. Through these seven short devotions, learn to feel more at home in and have gratitude for the body God gave you. Instead of seeing yourself as an ongoing fix-it project, combat the lies you’ve told with these powerful truths of Scripture: you are handcrafted and beautifully complex—just the way you are.
