I FEEL... Alone

DAY 4 OF 5

The Loneliness Jesus Knew

“Then everyone deserted him and fled.” – Mark 14:50 (NIV)

Mark does not elaborate, because he does not need to. In the moment of Jesus' arrest, every person who had walked with Him, eaten with Him, and declared their loyalty to Him turned and ran. The one who had spent three years building a community of twelve was left completely alone.

He knows what this feels like from the inside.

This matters because loneliness carries a particular weight when it involves betrayal or abandonment by people we trusted. It is one thing to feel alone in a crowd of strangers. It is another thing entirely to be left by the people who said they would stay. That specific wound has its own texture, and Jesus entered it fully.

He was not shielded from the experience by His divinity.

He felt the absence of the friends who fled and the silence of a night where no one returned. He carried all of that toward the cross without bitterness. His loneliness was not a sign that something had gone wrong. It was part of the path He chose, so that no one who follows Him would ever walk it alone.

When you bring your loneliness to Jesus, you are not bringing it to someone who has to imagine what it feels like.

You are bringing it to the one person who has been in that exact place and who chose to go there, in part, so He could meet you there.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for not avoiding the loneliness I carry. You walked into it Yourself so You could walk through it with me. I bring You the specific pain of being left by people I trusted. Meet me here, as only You can. Amen.

About this Plan

I FEEL... Alone

Loneliness does not disappear simply because your faith says it should. If you have felt unseen, disconnected, or quietly invisible — even in a room full of people — you are not alone in feeling that way, and you are not beyond reach. These readings begin exactly where you are, without rushing. The God who has never once been absent is waiting to meet you here.
