Created for Jesus

DAY 4 OF 5

All Things Were Created for Jesus

Genesis tells us that God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). Colossians 1:16 tells us that all things were created through Jesus and for Jesus.

This takes us to the center of everything.

Jesus is not an afterthought in the story of creation. He is not merely the solution to the problem of sin. He is the one through whom all things were made and the one for whom all things exist. Visible and invisible, thrones and powers, heaven and earth, galaxies and gardens, oceans and cities, angels and atoms, nations and neighborhoods—all things were created through him and for him.

That means the purpose of creation is not ultimately centred on us. The world does not exist first for human consumption, comfort, ambition, or self-expression. It exists for Christ. And because we were created for Christ, we only understand ourselves rightly when we find our life in him.

This is deeply freeing.

If life is for Jesus, then we do not need to carry the impossible burden of being the centre. We do not need to make our own name ultimate or create a lasting legacy for ourselves. We do not need to force every relationship, possession, opportunity, or success to satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts. We were made for someone greater.

Colossians also tells us that the one through whom all things were created is the one who reconciles all things through his blood on the cross. The Creator becomes the Redeemer. The Lord of creation enters creation. The one who holds all things together allows himself to be nailed to a cross to make peace.

This is the wonder of the gospel. Jesus does not abandon what he made. He comes to redeem it.

To say “Created for Jesus” is not only a statement about purpose. It is an invitation to worship. Everything begins in him, holds together in him, and will be reconciled through him.

Prayer

Jesus, all things were created through you and for you. Recenter my life around you. Free me from living as though I am the centre, and teach me to worship you as Lord of all. Amen.

Today’s Practice

Look at one area of your life—work, family, money, body, time, or ambition—and ask: What would change if I truly believed this was created for Jesus?

About this Plan

Created for Jesus

Why did God create the world? Genesis tells us that God made the heavens and the earth, called creation good, and made human beings in his image. But the New Testament takes us even deeper—all things were created through Jesus and for Jesus. This 5-day plan invites us to reflect on the Creator God, the goodness of the physical world, the dignity and calling of humanity, the centrality of Jesus, and the hope of new creation. You were not created for yourself. The world was not created for itself. All things were created for Jesus.
