What I Trust vs. Who I Trust
Thought: What do you trust?
As soon as we meet Abraham (Spoiler Alert: God is about to change his name from Abram in Genesis 17) in Genesis 12, the first verse is God asking him to leave his country, his people, his family, and his home and set out for something new! God has given Abraham a huge promise. You might be familiar with the idea that you have to take big risks to make it big in life, and I think it's tempting to believe this is what is happening here. But Abraham isn't starting a new business or just getting a fresh start; he's stepping out in faith. He's leaving all the things he has found security and comfort in to step out.
His security and comfort can no longer be found in his things, his people, or his plans as he leaves them behind. What do you trust? What brings you comfort and security? Is it your country, your people, your family, or your home? The call to faith begins where your comfort zone ends.
Take a minute and pray (even if you've never really prayed before). Ask God to open your eyes to what He might want to teach you in this passage so that you can connect more deeply with your student.
When was the last time God asked you to leave something behind and follow Him? Is there something God is asking you to take a step away from now?

About this Plan

At CAMP, your student is walking through the story of Abraham in Genesis. Abraham is known as a "hero of faith," saying "yes" to whatever God asked, over and over, and he found blessing on the other side of faithfulness. We know that faith may be new or challenging for you. Our hope is that, in following along with what your student is learning, you can engage in deeper conversation with them. This four-day devotional will include a scripture passage we're teaching at CAMP, a thought, and a couple of questions for you to prayerfully consider.
