Trash Talk

DAY 2 OF 6

A Call to Wholehearted Devotion

Elijah's question cuts through the centuries and lands squarely as trash/straight talk in our hearts as men today: "How long will you limp between two twigs?"

The Israelites weren't atheists—they believed in God. But they also wanted to hedge their bets by worshiping Baal. They wanted God's blessing without full surrender. They wanted spiritual insurance without spiritual commitment. Sound familiar?

We do the same thing. We say we follow Jesus, but we also bow to the gods of comfort, success, approval, and security. We worship on Sunday, but live for ourselves Monday through Saturday. We pray when we're desperate, but ignore God when life is smooth. We're limping between two opinions—trying to serve both God and the world.

But God doesn't want part of your heart. He wants all of it.

When Elijah called down fire from Heaven, it wasn't just to prove God's power—it was to demand a decision. The people could no longer sit on the fence. They had to choose. And when they saw God's fire fall, they fell on their faces and cried, "The LORD—He is God!"

Here's the beautiful truth: the fire of God still falls today. Not on altars of stone, but on hearts surrendered to Him. When we stop limping and start running—when we fix our eyes on Jesus and give Him everything—His power shows up in our lives. We see transformation. We experience His presence. We walk in purpose.

The Christian life isn't meant to be a limp between competing loyalties. It's meant to be a race—run with endurance, with purpose, with eyes fixed on Christ.

So today, ask yourself: Where am I limping? Where am I trying to serve two masters? What "Baal" am I clinging to alongside my faith in God?

God is calling you to wholehearted devotion. Not perfection, but surrender. Not flawless performance, but full commitment. Stop limping, men. Stop being on the injury list. Get in the game. Start running. Fix your eyes on Jesus.

About this Plan

Trash Talk

Men often engage in "trash talk" targeting ego, status, strength, and competence. Similarly, the Bible contains pointed, direct moments where Jesus and others confront ungodly character traits in men. This plan examines those uncomfortable yet necessary moments of correction, challenging us to shed the sins that hold us back and pursue Christ wholeheartedly in every area of life.
