30 Little Things: The Book of GenesisSample

Everlasting God.
Can we really ever fathom the meaning of the word 'everlasting'? No, it is unlikely that we, as very limited human beings, could understand what is means to last forever. This is why we cannot really understand what it means for God to be everlasting. We sing it, say it and read it all the time, that our God is an everlasting God. But how does this eternality affects us? Should we be affected? Absolutely! If it makes it easier, God has defined for us what it meant to have an everlasting God here in Genesis 17:7. God said that He would fulfill His promises, His covenants with Abraham and with his descendants, from generation to generations, and will always be their God.
God didn't say, 'I will only be your God, Abraham, and your descendants will need to find someone else to be their God'. He didn't say that His promises only applies for the time-being, while Abraham was still alive. He said His promises will be fulfilled from one generation to another and God will always and still be God. If He was the God Almighty during Abraham's time, He still is for us today and He will still be when we come home to Heaven. What an amazing God we have!
