I Will Not Betray My Heart

DAY 2 OF 7

A RENEWED HEART

In Jesus’ day there existed “purists” that considered the House of God to be tainted. The Temple in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus wasn’t Solomon’s Temple or the Second Temple built by the post-exilic community: Herod’s Temple was a political construction built by a corrupt king.

It’s very easy to allow our heart towards God’s House to be influenced by historical perceptions or bad past experiences. Jesus was God—knowing full well the manipulation and total spiritual breakdown that was occurring in Herod’s Temple—and yet His passion for the place where people came to find God was undiminished.

Mark records that Jesus wouldn’t allow anyone to carry anything through the temple—the very ground of God’s House was Holy because it was where hungry people came to find heaven. Jesus was fixated on being part of the Restoration of the House, not abandoning the project.

I am glad that Jesus doesn’t abandon projects—like me—but completes them.

The truth is that the Church is imperfect because I’m in it. And it is also true that, as I get an understanding of how God sees His House, I become part of the Restoration Project.

Are there any places where your resolve in building God’s House has lost some energy, perhaps even in the well-doing?

PRAYER
Father—strengthen our hands, renew our vision of Jesus’ Body, the Church, and by Your Spirit, let our hands and gifts be seen as integral to Your Restoration Project for Humanity, in Jesus' Name.

About this Plan

I Will Not Betray My Heart

"Heart For The House" is an annual, sacrificial offering over and above normal tithes and offerings at Hillsong NYC. Every year, this single weekend marks a pivotal and miraculous step forward in the life of our church. By intentionally preparing and selflessly giving, our church is able to extend our reach and expand our influence into realms that are often left overlooked. Our prayer is that you would consider your part to play as we endeavor to practically equip our local church to better serve our city, our home, and our world. Our heart is for freedom. Our heart if for people. Our heart is for this house. And we will not betray our heart. Join us over the next seven days in this special devotional, as we learn more of God's heart for us, and for His Church. And as we prepare to sow generously to see His kingdom take ground like never before.
