Advent With TearfundSample

The Orange
Discover the Christingle this Christmas! Meaning ‘Christ like’ it is used as a symbol to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
The idea of the Christingle began with German Bishop Johannes de Watteville in 1747, who wanted a simple way to convey the joy of Christmas at a children’s service. He gave each child a lighted candle wrapped in a red ribbon.
As the children held their candles, Bishop Johannes muttered the following prayer, “Lord Jesus, kindle a flame in these children's hearts that theirs like thine become.”
In Christingles today, children use an orange to represent the world, and sweets to represent the good things God gives us. Watch today’s video to find out more.
