Chosen

Before we start talking about David we’ll have to rewind a little bit. We have to remember that in that time, being King was very important. The people cried out for one, they wanted to be like the surrounding nations, and even though this was against God’s original purpose for His people, He heard their cry and allowed Saul to be the first King of Israel. Saul had an imposing beauty, but was fearful and was weak in character. Standing in the battle against the philistines, Saul chose to act in his own way and not as he was oriented by Samuel. Scared, Saul decided to present a holocaust and even though it was for the Lord, it was made the wrong way at the wrong time. After all, it is best to obey than sacrifice.

The Bible shows us another episode of Saul’s disobedience when he chose not to follow the Lord’s instructions by sparing what was good from the Amalekites - his ego was stronger. He decided to do everything according to his will. Saul could have the looks of a King, but didn’t have the heart of one. He forgot from whom victory comes from and that the lead role was not his. Saul won several battles against enemies, but lost the battle against himself. God then decided to look for someone after His heart. He told Samuel to go to Jesse’s house and anoint the new King of Israel.

The youngest one, the shepherd, had no idea of what was about to happen, but God had already chosen him.
