Satan's defeat Pt. 1
Thoughts on the Passage
There are two key thoughts here. First, when we see the birth of Jesus portrayed here, we also see satan’s attack released through King Herod. Satan tried to destroy the child – through a person. This was his only option. He could not destroy the Son of God himself, so he uses people to do it. We will see this again when he cannot destroy the church himself.
Second, we are going to see a series of attacks by satan – and he fails in every attempt. There are seven failures of satan in this section. It is a powerful reminder to the churches that satan is a defeated foe. He is powerful, but every action he tries results in failure. We see two of the seven here. He takes one third of the stars of heaven – most believe that these are the angels that joined with him in rebellion against God. He fails to lead a revolt against God – only one-third are willing to follow him. The others choose to stay and walk in obedience to God. The other failure is his attempt to kill and destroy God’s Son, Jesus. The Child is destined to rule (remember, satan is the ruler of this world right now, but he will lose it to this Child).
We are going to see a downward series of failures by satan. It is a seven-fold failure, meaning a complete failure. It was first promised in Genesis 3:15. It happened at the cross and now he is in the process of losing everything. This was important for the early churches to see this – and it is important for us to see it as well.
Prayer
Father, Hallelujah!
Our enemy is defeated. He continues to fight, but he lost everything. He continues to try and kill, steal and destroy because it is his only chance to take some of God’s creation with him to destruction. Still, today I celebrate that this destroyer faces such a just verdict. You promised this in the beginning. You fulfilled it at the cross. You are now in the process of releasing Your rule over satan’s dominion. Help me to walk today in this authority. I will see it afresh over the next couple of days, but I start by declaring that the victory was won that day on Calvary. Everything else is just follow-up. In Jesus Name, Amen.
读经计划介绍
In this wing of the gallery, we are introduced to the first of three women. This woman is a representation of Israel. As we journey through Plan 7 of Revelation, we see the pictures from the point of view of a Jewish believer. We also see the complete defeat of Satan and the authority we have as God’s children through Christ’s victory.
