The Wisdom Of The Teacher For College Students, Ch. 2预览
The “Teacher” summarizes the experiments in the first chapter in the first few verses of chapter two. So far, he’s discovered that pleasure doesn’t really accomplish anything in the end. It’s a futile search for meaning that leads to a dead end. Literally!
What about the laughter and the search for humor in life, and enjoying all the great pleasures of life? Well, that proved to be “madness” to the Teacher. Even when he used his wisdom to guide his search to enjoy bodily pleasures, the result was the same.
His search was an honest quest, a noble journey. He really was trying to find out what gives a person meaning during the fleeting days of one’s life. There are many on your campus today who are engaging in the same pursuits. That’s why really spending some time reading, thinking through, and studying on your own the book of Ecclesiastes is so valuable for college students.
If you are not experimenting with the things of the world, your peers certainly are. Gaining wisdom from the Teacher allows us to have better conversations with those who are trying to find out what life is all about.
