Deja Vu

We have all had that moment where we say, "Wait, I feel like I have been here before." The message of Jesus clicks in a similar way. Before the foundations of the world, God knew you. Before you were even conceived, God knew your name. He knitted you together in your mother’s womb. Not only that, but at some point during that process he inscribed the message of Jesus on your heart. When you received that message, it clicked. Like deja vu, your heart received it like a faint, but now retrieved memory.

What about those who don't receive the Gospel openly? Was the message not written on their hearts?

The Bible is clear, the Word is written on the hearts of all men. Romans 2:15 continues, "They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them." Whether the person rejecting the Gospel would like to admit it, their conscience bears witness. Their presumptions about Christianity may trump their acceptance of the Gospel. Their hearts may also be hardened and their minds may be seared. However, I can assure you of one thing: No one who has ever heard the story of Jesus has ever forgotten it. Whether rejected or denied, the story remains in their heart. Like deja vu or like a conversation that helps you recall a faint childhood memory, the Gospel preached will do something to the conscience that can never be reversed.

Charge: Take some time to meditate on Romans 2:15. Remember that the Word is written on the hearts of every person you come in contact with today.
