God Is Doing Something

Each of the stories we’ve read help us see God’s character. We now know that restoration is simply part of who He is and how He operates. However, these stories do even more than offer us hope and inspire us, they point to an even bigger restoration project that God is executing.

In Day One of this study, we saw that death, grief, and suffering did not come from God in the beginning. Sin brought in all evil things, and the world became fractured when sin entered the story. But God was not defeated by sin, and He set up a plan to restore not just individuals, but all of creation.

Our perfect God entered into our imperfect story. He sent His son to die, voluntarily experiencing intimate loss for the sake of His people. He too, knows what loss feels like, but He bore that pain so that we could overcome ours. Now, after Christ’s resurrection, we can find our hope in His power, knowing that He reigns victoriously over all pain.

The last pages of scripture give us a glimpse into the perfectly renewed world that is coming. We see a beautiful new heaven and earth where God wipes away all tears and death ceases to exist. Like He did in the beginning, God will once again dwell alongside His people, bringing perfect truth, beauty, and peace with Him. All people and nations will be together, unified as they glorify God and enjoy one another’s company without troubles.

This is the hope we have in our grief: that through Christ, God is restoring all things. All pain will go away, all grief will end, and we will experience perfect peace for all eternity with the creator of life, love, and joy.
