“At the cry of an infant

Darkness has ended

All is still”

God With Us, David Binion, Joshua Dufrene & Colin Edge

I’ve always heard people talk about “remembering the reason for the season”. I also know that sometimes, it’s easy to let things go in one ear and right out the other—around Christmas time in particular, hearing it but not really grasping it in our minds while the thought is still fresh. With the craziness of the holiday season, it’s also just as easy to make excuses for ourselves after the fact when we think about how busy we were, and how it really wasn’t our fault that we might have forgotten to take a moment here or there to just thank Jesus for what He’s done. Yet making excuses for ourselves in that way will never lead to change. We must make Christ the center of Christmas. And it doesn’t have to be extravagantly, either.

Honoring the Lord can be something as simple as taking the time to say an extra prayer when we wake up, or when we face difficult situations, because no difficulty is too much for Him. He came to Earth in the form of a man, to walk among us and then die on the cross for our sins! What could be harder than the work of saving us from our own sinful natures?

So this Christmas, I just want to ask that you pray this with me: “O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; for You have worked wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness” (Isaiah 25:1). It’s an easy way to remember the reason for the season.
