That We may Believe: Reading Through John预览
When did you last stop to marvel at Jesus? Today, take a moment with me to pause and recognize Him as the immortal, eternal Christ through whom everything was created.
The Apostle John wanted the readers of his gospel to understand the deity of Christ. He wrote to clearly portray Jesus as the Son of God who has the power to give life to those who believe in Him.
In the opening words of his gospel, John, one of the disciples, purposefully echoed Genesis 1:1, which says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” In this, he highlighted the moment when everything began. He was saying, “Look and see Jesus in the inky black void that existed before creation.”
John wanted us to understand, without a doubt, the divinity of Christ, to realize that His power and His work existed before time.
Genesis tells us God made everything—light and darkness, day and night, land and sea, all animals. He spoke, and the universe began to take shape. Creation happened through the Word, and that Word is Jesus.
Oh, sister, how we should marvel at the greatness and power of Jesus! He is God, Co-Creator with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. God’s holy and sinless Son, and our Savior who came to earth that we might know Him.
Pause to contemplate the glory of Christ. What comes to mind when you consider all He is?
