Real Hope: Worship预览
Worship In The Weekdays
In the Christian context, worship is often understood in relationship to music. ‘Worshipping God’ is what we’re doing when we sing to Him before the sermon on a Sunday. It’s what we’re doing as we hum melodies of thankfulness under our breath throughout the day. Really though, our ‘worship to God’ encapsulates the entire life we lead as we follow Him.
Religion by definition is, ‘The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power… a particular system of faith and worship’. As Christians, we’ve subscribed to a belief in God, and worship Him through adopting the ways of Jesus.
In James, we see that the worship God desires us to offer is about a whole lot more than music. It’s reflected in how we love and look after those in need, and in our dedication to keeping our eyes fixed on His truths. The world can muddle perspectives and we can easily think worship is confined to experience of a Sunday service, but in its purest form it’s more than that.
Rend Collective lead singer Chris Llewellyn recently posted that, ‘The day is upon us that a song by itself just doesn’t cut it; worship means treating the planet with some respect; worship means dismantling racism; worship means defending the poor and the widow and the orphan; worship means ending human trafficking and slavery. And all of this to a soundtrack of praise.’ Don’t stop singing on a Sunday, but consider: how are you worshipping God the rest of the week?
