Exodus And The Plagues

Have you heard the sayings ‘it’s okay to make a mistake, as long as you learn from it’ or ‘the best way to learn is through the mistakes of others’? You get the benefit of observing the outcomes without having to undergo the consequences.

Growing up, my sister and I had very different personalities and didn’t get along. Now, as adults, we have grown to love, like, and look out for one another. One could say that we were almost opposites. We liked different things and responded to situations in very different ways. I distinctly remember a moment where my sister decided to challenge the authority of my father over a decision he had made, and she suffered the full extent of the consequences by not being allowed to attend social functions for a number of weeks. I thought to myself ‘I don’t want to do that!’

I guess Pharaoh didn’t have an older sister to learn from like I did growing up. If he did, he may have been more inclined to learn from the consequences of the first couple of plagues rather than continue challenging the authority of the Hebrew God and Heavenly Father. As a result, he paid the ultimate price and eventually lost his firstborn son. Do you find yourself facing reoccurring challenges? Maybe it’s an opportunity to learn, grow and allow the Father to do His divine work in you. May He who has begun a good work in you carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6 NIV).
