The Ten Commandments. God’s Instruction Manual for Life预览
Having respect for God’s Name
One’s name stands for one’s identity. So, if someone’s name is being slandered, this really hurts the person. If God’s name is being blasphemed and cursed, He does not take this lightly. Profaning his name means disrespecting the Lord Himself.
Some people use God’s name as a swear word, or to enforce a false oath. God clearly forbids us to do this: “You must not use my name to make false promises. If you do that, you will show that you don’t respect the name of your God.” (Leviticus 19:12, ERV)
In the New Testament, we read how people were baptized and healed in the name of Jesus, who is God the Son: “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” (Acts 3:6). His name is almost a synonym for Himself and his saving power. It is powerful and should be used with reverence and awe.
Some people think we should not use God’s name at all. But that’s not true. We are encouraged to “sing the glory of his name” (Psalm 66:2) and to “call upon his name” (Psalm 105:1). If we do so, we honor our Creator.
How do you use God’s name?
读经计划介绍
God gave the Israelites instructions on how to serve Him and how to treat fellow people. These “ten commandments” were like a constitution designed by God Himself, meant for his glory and the well-being of the people. They are still a valuable guideline for our life with God and with other people. This Reading Plan studies all ten commandments and the summary that Jesus gave us.
