Jesus the Small Group Leader预览
Serve Others
Jesus was the embodiment of servant leadership. He modeled it for us in John, and days later with the ultimate sacrifice of his life. He didn’t just tell his disciples to go and serve others—he showed them what being a servant truly looked like.
Whether your small group is new, or if you’ve been meeting together for years, serving alongside one another is one of the healthiest practices you can do. Not only does it put you in the position that Jesus put himself in, but it also opens up relational doors that may otherwise remain closed.
Serving together as a group accelerates group connection. It stretches us and creates shared memories and bonds while being the hands and feet of Jesus for others.
With careful navigation, your group could discern and select an area or two outside of your group that could use your practical compassion. When we serve together, we naturally connect more deeply. As Coretta Scott King said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
This sounds obvious, but relationships take time and intentionality. If you don’t have one-on-one time with people in your group, time with each other’s families, and time in social connection outside of the group, you won’t experience the level of relationship that will transform your life.
Jesus knew this. He served his disciples, and he served alongside them. And this is the same model he has called us to.
