Four Tips to Effective Meetings - Part II
Priya Parker, author of the book The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters, shared in a Wall Street Journal article four tips on conducting effective meetings. The first tip is to set the stage for your meeting. The second tip is to let everyone see and be seen.
As an introvert, it’s easy for me to avoid sharing my thoughts in a meeting. By creating an opportunity to identify and briefly hear from everyone, you can increase the engagement and effectiveness of a meeting.
1 Corinthians 12 says, "But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another."
If you want an effective meeting, let your team know that you believe each member is valuable and treat them as such.
Questions for Reflection:
- Ice breakers at the beginning of a meeting are an effective way to ensure that everyone in your meeting is seen and heard from. Can you think of other strategies?
- According to 1 Corinthians 12, what is God’s position for those members that lack? What do you think Paul meant by that description?
- What are some strategies you can use to make sure the more talkative team members don’t dominate your meeting?
