The Turning Point of Vision

Exodus 3:2-4: “And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Moses was in oblivion for 40 years after escaping from Egypt.  Destined to shepherd the people of Israel, he was tending to flocks in the back side of the desert.  He was given a sign that would prove significant to his life and ministry.  A bush that was aflame and yet not consumed.

We all need this vision.  One in which there is a passion and flame and yet it does not consume us.  Moses was a passionate man, he had defended his brother Israelite and killed the Egyptian slave master.  However, this consumed him, it caused him to flee and spend years in oblivion.  When we try to accomplish our vision in our own strength we often get burned out.  Now Moses is ready for his resurrected vision, a God-given vision to burn with his fire.

Moses had to make the decision to turn aside and look at this sight.  He could have kept going and ignored the vision.  But he decided to turn from his path, from his sheep, from his livelihood and to behold what God was showing him.  In doing so he heard the voice of God and received the clarity of his vision.

Moses was 80, Pastor Joseph was 78 when God called him to turn away from the ministry he had built over 40 years and turn towards a new way.  Pastor was able to obey and move forward with a new vision and new passion.  What is God calling you to turn away from?  Vision will cause you to turn from yourself to God.
