Fasting to put God back in first place

God has set a table for us, Jesus has accomplished everything. Yet we don't seem to be taking full advantage of it.

"He who is full has trodden underfoot the honeycomb," (Proverbs 27:7a).

To trample on honey is an expression that shows contempt for things of value, disdain.

If we are not hungry for God, we will despise what he wants to give us, not realizing its value. If we are not hungry for God, it is because our hearts are already filled with other things?

If you are content to fill your heart with what the world offers you, you will be satiated and you will no longer have an appetite for God.

Fasting is more than a diet or a hunger strike. It is setting oneself apart for God, turning away from vain things, and consecrating oneself.

When you stop eating, you get a headache for the first few days. It is our body that eliminates the accumulated toxins. It is a physical purification that must also be accompanied by spiritual and intellectual purification.

When I fast, I cut myself off from distractions, TV, Facebook, Youtube, to focus only on God, his word, his presence. I can also take the opportunity to study a particular subject with a good Christian book. But the Bible must remain my priority.

When I fast, I regain control over my flesh, over its lusts; I fix myself on God to make him my delight, which makes my prayers more effective.

Let us pray together.

Lord, I choose to set myself apart for you. I choose to make you my delight. May the lusts of my flesh die and the desires of your Spirit within me triumph.
