Am I All In?

Our society thrives on labels, lists, and boxes. We label ourselves based on political affiliations, denomination, and even the foods we eat - pescatarian, vegan, etc. The issue with labeling ourselves is that we seldom do one thing all the time. Simply put, none of us fit perfectly into any mold.

To cope with our multifaceted lifestyles, we label each section or compartmentalize them. We might describe them as hats: we have our “mom” hat, “wife” hat, or “church” hat. We switch between them so much that we don’t consciously think about it, and we have gotten good at it. The danger shows up when we feel so good or in control of an area that we don’t invite God into it. For example, we invite God into our Sunday morning “church” life, but do we invite God into our entertainment and social lives?

None of these areas should be off-limits to God. We can think of it as rooms in a house. When we received salvation, we gave God ownership of the house. As the owner, He should be able to walk into every room with freedom - from our living areas in which we entertain to our basement, where we put the memories of things long gone.

It doesn’t matter to God how messy things might be. He sees it, and He is so gracious that He will come in and help us clean it up. Let’s invite Him in so that we can live undivided.

Reflection:

What areas of your life have been off-limits to God?

Why have these areas been off-limits?

How can you invite God into your eating habits, sex life, and entertainment choices?
