Writing With Your Words

The role of a scribe or writer in biblical times was to write a detailed account of events: to recount and record history precisely as it happened. The psalmist painted a picture of what was going on in his heart when he wrote, "My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe." (Psalm 45:1)

Jesus said in Luke 6:45, “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.”

We can use our words to write or recount what God is doing in our hearts. We want to bring treasure into life. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” Likewise, Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Everyday, we have opportunities to recount what God does in our midst.

Question: What is something God is doing in your heart that you can recount to others?

Prayer: Have a conversation with God about how He is working around you and what He wants you to share with others. Ask Him how He wants history to be recorded and recounted through your words and life.
