Who Is a Candidate for Rejoicing?

Rejoicing comes from people being strongly rooted in God and His work in their hearts. But for whom is this rejoicing? In the book of Psalms, we find that all the faithful and the righteous are asked to rejoice in the Lord, to celebrate the greatness of God.

Many of us might read this and think it sounds unattainable. We wonder how few people will be able to access the rejoicing God offers. But, the righteous and the faithful are those who have known Christ and put their trust in Him. They are people who continue to walk with Him, in whose lives He has made a difference, and who allow Him to use them.

God’s people should celebrate God’s greatness all the time, not only when things are going well. When we celebrate only when things are going well, we are happy because of what is happening; happiness is temporary. But when we celebrate God’s greatness all the time, regardless of what is happening, we are talking about joy. Real rejoicing begins when we accept the work of Jesus Christ in our life and are continuously mindful of it. Then, we become faithful, not because of our actions but because of His work on the cross, with which He forgave our sins. He has made us new creatures who are able to praise God because there has been a change in our nature. We are righteous by His work, not by our merits. With that righteousness, we have access to the position spoken of in Psalm 33:1, and we experience the sincere rejoicing that flows from God.

This joy has nothing to do with our mood, intellectual capacity, education, personality type, temperament, or condition on this earth; it has everything to do with being mindful of He and His nature of love. So, everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior can experience rejoicing that goes beyond our circumstances, is founded on our faith and expresses God’s greatness to all the earth. So, the extroverted rejoice in the Lord, the timid rejoice in the Lord, the cultured rejoice in the Lord, the simple rejoice in the Lord, the rich rejoice in the Lord, and the poor rejoice in the Lord.

Lord, I acknowledge that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the forgiveness of my sins, so I ask You to forgive me. I repent of all the ways I may have offended You and sinned. Give me Your righteousness and make me holy and faithful so that I may live each day in the joy that You promise to those who love You.
