[Uniqueness of Christ] Jesus' Unique Relationship预览
In Power
Can you imagine having all the power in the world to do anything you want and not use it? It is challenging for us to imagine it, but this is precisely what Jesus did. He had God's power and authority, but He did not use them to change the plans God had for Him.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus said that all authority had been given to Him. He had every right and all the power to say no to coming to earth and a humble birth. He could have said no to waiting so long to reveal who He was, and He could have rejected death on the cross.
He could have lived forever if He wanted because He is God. Despite that, Jesus did not use His power and authority to escape those scenarios. He could have said no to you and me, but He did not do so. He said "yes" to the Father and "yes" to the cross because He loved the Father, and He loved us.
North American pastor and author D. James Kennedy told a story about asking a man who He thought Jesus was. The man answered that Jesus was a wonderful person, the greatest and most loving human who ever lived.
Kennedy then asked, "Did you know that, according to Scripture, Jesus is the eternal Creator of the universe, the omnipotent, omniscient, almighty God?" The man responded with tears in his eyes: "It is the way it ought to be. God ought to be like Jesus."
Equality with God means God looks like Jesus, and Jesus looks like God. The Father was willing to send the Son. The Son was willing to die, and the Father was willing to allow it. All this is because of how good, gracious and loving He and Christ are.
They love you and I so much that they want to transform us into the image of Christ through the Holy Spirit so we, too, can enjoy this beautiful relationship.
Christ wanted us to have the same unity He has with God. He also wanted us to enjoy it so the world would know about God and Jesus' love for humankind. God's desire for us to be with Him was so all-consuming that He sent His son to make it happen, and His Son was willing to do it for love.
God and Jesus did their part. Now, we are called to do our part and reflect their unity and love in our lives!
