The Love of God - the Plumb Line

How are we loved?

As the father has loved me, so have I loved you! John 15:9

How did the Father love Jesus? Completely, without holding anything back from Him. How does Jesus love us? In the same way! You may know about the love of God, sing about the love of God, and could even explain the love of God to someone else. My plea to you is that you go deeper. Experience the love of God.

First, recognize that He has already demonstrated His love for you by dying in your place! Begin to acknowledge His hand of grace upon your life every single day. It starts by cultivating a thankful heart. Start giving thanks in everything and watch how your thoughts slowly drift towards worship and adoration of Jesus.

It is from this place of knowing that you are loved unconditionally, eternally, and fully, that you can be a secure child of God. You will find rest in your identity as a child of God who has access to all the riches of heaven, and from that place, you will love and serve God. This is another plumb line to come back to every time we are tempted to compare our life with someone else. Know who you are and to whom you belong. Let that be your plumb line in a competitive world that people seek to gain worth from, possessions and position. Being a beloved child of God is more than enough!

If you don’t stay close to this plumb-line truth, you will serve and do things to gain attention, position, prominence, and approval from people and God. This is a terrible way to live. It is far better to rest in the unconditional love of the Father's embrace. It will make you a secure son or daughter and a faithful servant.

REFLECTION

Where do you get your identity from?

Watch out, even for your service to God and the church becoming your identity. It is not what you do but who you are that makes you, you.
