THE CALL TO EXCELLENCE IN MARRIAGE (2)

Trouble in your marriage simply means you are not an angel; it tells us that you are still on this side of heaven. The only time you are not going to have a problem in your marriage is if and when you die. As long as you are still a member of the human race, you will have to deal with some conflicts in your marriage. Don’t think there won’t be troubles, there would be; you will still make mistakes, but you must be committed to growth and improvement. That is a key to success in marriage.

Marriages can grow because individuals can grow. Problems don’t grow. What makes you think problems grow is because the people that are facing the problems are not growing. When you grow, you find out that problems don’t grow, but you have suddenly grown, and the problems look cheap. But if you don’t grow, the problem keeps looking bigger and bigger.

When you ask newly wedded couples their opinion about marriage, they will tell you all kinds of things, but they are just starting a journey. Marriage is a journey you will be on throughout your lifetime, so settle down to that journey. Wherever you are on that journey, you must complete it. Your vehicle may be rickety now but keep driving and keep moving.

Something about marriage is that there is no joy like the joy of marriage and there is no pain like the pain of marriage. One of my simplest counsels for people is this: if you are not yet ready, don’t go into it. Make up your mind that yours will be full of joy and not pain.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to have joy every day in my marriage in Jesus name!
