Miracles and Safer Travels

After the shipwreck, Paul heals many on the island. God’s plan for Paul to make it to Rome isn’t hindered by a shipwreck, a poisonous snake, people idolizing Paul, or a lack of transportation. He ends up in Rome, remaining in custody under house arrest.

Explore the Theme: Paul’s life is marked by the miraculous and Malta is no exception. He is received with unusual kindness, untouched by certain death and honored for healing an entire island of disease. Some might say Paul is lucky, but what do you think explains the miracles in Paul’s life? Paul arrives in Rome, finding strength in friends and thanking God. What else do you think Paul feels toward God?

Ask God: Most of us won’t experience the incredible miracles evident in Paul’s life, but we are still in the hands of a miraculous God. How are you seeing God at work in your life? Do you believe he is working even when you can’t see? If not, what is keeping you from believing? Be real with God, confess any doubts and ask him to help you trust him with all things, seen and unseen.

Live it Out: Paul walks through unimaginable trials yet always finds reason for gratitude. While saying “thank you” may not be our first response, it’s never too late to be grateful. Take some time today to reflect on what or who you are grateful for. It may involve present circumstances or past experiences, but thank God for seeing you through, and if others helped along the way, take some time to thank them, too.
