Devoted: A Girl’s Guide To Good Living With A Great God预览
"Humility"
Read Proverbs 3:34, Philippians 2
God-honoring humility takes pride in the truth that we have nothing meaningful to offer the world without Jesus. And because of that, humility is secure and confident in the Lord’s might and marvelousness, completely satisfied with who God made us to be. It seeks to put others first because we acknowledge the true value and intricate depth that God has endowed them with.
Romans 12:3 (NIV) directs Christ followers to sober up from being drunk on ourselves—we’re not seeing the facts straight. In fact, a girl doesn’t need to have high self-esteem to be full of her own selfish interest. It’s human nature to feel entitled to bigger and better things and to look out for number one first— everyone else can be number two. Whether we think we’re all that or we view ourselves as an object of hate, a mind hyperconsumed with serving ourselves is a sign of pride.

If the perfect Son of God humbled Himself, how much more should we, as merely imperfect humans, follow His example of humility?
Pride is ultimately a sin against God. Whether we find it in our relationships, our decisions, or even our thoughts, pride boils down to an ugly state where we exalt ourselves above the One who should be exalted above all. We must decide who’s boss, who sits on the throne of our hearts, and who calls the shots: us or God.
Pride happens when the Lord is no longer above all in our lives and we are consumed with our own will. Learn the fine art of deflecting praise to whom it is really due. No matter how hard we work, the Lord always gets the praise, because without Him, we can do nothing. As it says in James 4:10 (NIV), “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
