The Creator's Craft: A 3 Day Devotional on God's Creative Process预览
You possess God’s creative spirit.
Before you object, let’s first get a couple of myths out of the way.
The idea that creative gifts are only given to those who can dance, sing, paint, make videos or act is simply a perception based on years of entertainment and celebrity.
Artists who are in the performing arts, or who create public presentations, are easy to spot and get the lion’s share of attention in our society.
But that’s not where creativity stops.
You use your creative ability in the everyday problem solving and unique approaches you take to life - in business, in family life, and in your day-to-day decisions.
That means you use creativity every day.
And if you've accepted Jesus as your Savior, the same Spirit that created the universe is now living within you.
Therefore it’s wise to ask/consider how God wants us to use this awesome creative ability.
There’s no better way to do this than to study how God Himself creates.
In the Genesis account, God not only tells us how He creates, but He also gives us a blueprint on how we should utilize our creative gifts in any capacity.
The 6 steps are Intention, Announcement, Production, Evaluation, Celebration and Delegation.
In this first day, we’ll break down Intention and Announcement.
INTENTION
In the very first verse of the Bible, God makes His intent clear.
However, while his intention to create the heavens and the earth is front and center, His ultimate intention was to have eternal relationship with His creation.
He had an intention for you and me. He had an intention for Jesus coming into the world. Before anything was made, before He actually did the creating, His intention was there.
In the same way, nothing in our lives starts until we set our intention and commit to the actions we know we must take.
And thankfully, we can turn to God so our intentions will be right in step with His.
ANNOUNCEMENT
Not only does God set an intention, He then announces what He's going to do.
We all have a love-hate relationship with making our intentions public. Many people say we should keep our ideas and declarations about what we’re going to do private.
But that’s not God’s model.
Here's why I think it's important that God announced. It made it clear that God is very comfortable with being held accountable.
When He said it, He expected it to happen.
The same should be true for us in our daily work, our creative projects, and our commitments.
So as you begin your creative process, whether it’s in a book, a poem, or even a home project, you can take a page from God’s creative process. You can not only set your intention of making something great, but also commit to making it public.
Whether you share your intention with a spouse, a friend, a pastor or simply write it in a journal, rest in the confidence and authority you have with God’s Spirit on the inside of you to make your intentions known.
Application for Today
Consider your plans for today. Did you start with an intention that was clear and focused? Did you check in with the Lord to see if your intentions match His? Do this in prayer, and then share your intentions for the day / creative task with one other person.
