Moses The Dissenter

Have you ever disagreed with the opinion of the government? Imagine if the ruling government could decide if you lived or died, or would be a slave or free? Moses was faced with a choice to obey the government enslaving his people or risk his life to stand up for them. Moses decided to be a vigilante for his fellow, oppressed Jews.

We can’t erase the fact that Moses took it too far with his first recorded act of heroism. He killed an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew man. Regardless, we can assume his intention was pure and only to protect his brethren. Later in scripture, Moses attempted to stop two Hebrew men from fighting. He also helped seven Midian women draw water for their flocks when shepherds pushed them away from the watering well. Moses had a kind heart and a passion for helping the unfortunate. The Lord took note of Moses’ strong affinity toward justice and freedom. Moses would be hand-picked by God to lead His people out of oppression and into their promised land.

Thank you Father for Moses, the dissenting maverick, who had the fortitude to follow your instructions and free Your people from their Egyptian oppressors. Moses played a role in biblical and world history pivotal to the will of God. Without it, the history and future of the Jewish nation would be completely different. God’s plan will always prevail. Blessed are those who answer His call and blessed of those who stand for justice.

Maverick for Christ

There are growing, ungodly opinions of how our churches and Christian communities should conduct themselves. There’s a lot of misdirection. Young adults give the impression that they are unsure of what is morally correct. Many fellow Christians wish to take the easy road by staying quiet; regardless of their loudly protesting and discerning thoughts. The world desperately needs Christian mavericks to lead the way, without fear, and with sound advice. This devotional is written to encourage Christians to be Mavericks for Christ and to stand for what is right without fear of having an unpopular opinion.
