Living Changed预览
Identity
We are all uniquely created. So why do we compare ourselves to others? We won’t be like others, and we’re not supposed to be. God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each of us. He took time to painstakingly create every perfect detail for the exact purpose He has planned for us. We look the way we look and are the way we are because God wanted to use our uniqueness for His glory.
In my early 20s, I got caught up in measuring myself against my friends, the women I’d pass on the street, and even Hollywood actresses - wishing I was made differently. Wishing I had a different clothing size, skill set, or personality trait. But God doesn’t make mistakes. Those things I wanted to change about myself were handpicked for me by the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
When you look at God’s creation in nature, you don’t critique the shape of the mountainside or complain about the local plant life or wildlife. You just accept it as beautiful, despite - and maybe even because of its imperfections. But we complain about ourselves. And when we do so, we’re dishonoring our Creator and telling Him, “Your masterpiece is flawed.”
Can you think of a recent project you worked really hard to complete? Maybe you spent hours obsessing over every tiny detail until it was absolutely perfect. We have to understand, that’s how God sees each of us - as a uniquely and perfectly made Masterpiece. Think of the intricate details of your fingerprints. Each person is so unique that even microscopic details aren’t the same from person to person. Every detail - even the hairs on your head - were thought out and planned with care.
And yet we compare ourselves to someone else with a smaller waistline or more obedient children or a nicer house- or whatever it is! But understand, a Masterpiece can’t be replicated or duplicated. It’s one of a kind.
We have to quit comparing. Quit challenging what God says about us. Quit believing the lies of the enemy. Quit believing what people of the world tell us, and remember what is true. Remember what God says about us in His Word. That is where your identity should come from - knowing you are His and He calls you beautiful.
