Hiding Place Devotional预览
The Sweet Spot
“Hide-n-Seek” was my favorite game as a child. I don't mean to brag, but I was a great hider. I was quiet and small, and I always found the BEST hiding places. I could hide in silence until everyone else was found, and then, when no one was looking, I would slip out quietly. I was careful to never reveal my sweet spot to anyone (so I could hide there again and again, of course!).
I don't think much has changed as I've grown into an adult. I'm still great at hiding. I’m just not as great at finding my sweet spot. Isn't that true of all of us? There isn’t one human on this earth that doesn't know how to hide. We just often fail to hide in the right place.
As a moms, we're "on" all day long, all through the night, with no days off.
Let's face it, hiding is our jam.
As wonderful as this calling is, it is also hard, exhausting, constant, loud, and chaotic. I don't know about you, but at LEAST once a day I want to run and hide.
But where are we hiding?
Where we choose to hide will either lead us to a place of Victory (Jesus) or a place of Defeat (anywhere else but Jesus). When we allow fear, regret, or guilt to consume us, that means we have lost sight of our sweet spot.
The Psalmist, David, made some pretty huge mistakes. He messed up big time and more than once. He could have hidden behind all of his mess, but he knew where to refuge. He hid himself in the Lord.
When God is our hiding place, no matter where we’ve been, what we’ve done, or who we are, we find:
Forgiveness instead of Guilt
Grace instead of Shame
Confidence instead of Fear
Hope instead of Despair
My four-year-old daughter's favorite spot to hide is nuzzled behind the coats hanging on hooks by the door. Although it's adorable, it presents a bit of a problem; she's only hidden from the waist up. Her cute little legs conspicuously squirm out in the open.
Every other hiding place leaves us exposed. The only place we're completely hidden and protected is Jesus. He's the sweet spot.

Aren't there times as a mom that you just want to hide...like in the pantry with a chocolate bar? Hidden from the storms of life and the weight of responsibilities. Hidden from the noise. Hidden from the routine. Hidden from our to-do lists. Just hidden and alone with Christ where we can hear Him call us by name and let His songs of victory fill our ears.
