God Has a Dream

God has a dream for your future, and it is not that He would somehow get on your program. God’s dream for your future is that you would get on His program. God doesn’t dream about where you’re going to live or what kind of decision you’re going to make about your vacation or some silly minutiae. God’s dreams for your future are about an amazing intimacy with Him that you have not yet experienced.

God continually calls us deeper and deeper into the fullness of life in Him. God envisions a day when what matters most to you is unrelated to the trappings of life (which you may have been tempted to refer to as God’s will for your life) but instead relates to Him! God’s will for you is a vertical relationship where those things become less and less important as you are caught up into the depth and glowing height of knowing and loving the Lord. That’s what eternity is going to be all about. God longs for us to seek Him and find Him because we search for Him with all of our heart.

Jeremiah 29:11 absolutely does not teach that there’s a detailed blueprint about your future that God is waiting for you to figure out. Yes, God has a sovereign will. Yes, God has guidelines for our behavior (the Bible). But no, God does not have a specific, detailed plan for each individual.

This is good news! For some of us, it’s a cosmic shift to reject the traditional view of God’s will and embrace the idea that God’s will is about who we are. After we realign our thinking according to God’s Word, we can expect some clear, distinct benefits—otherwise known as blessings—in our lives. Consider with me what will happen if we take a biblical approach to practicing the will of God as opposed to worrying about whether or not we’ve really “found” our personalized version of His will.
