Recovery Day 10

The first step to recovering your mind is to come to God. The second step is “…TAKE My yoke upon you…” To take on Jesus’ yoke means to give up control to Him. The reason we get over loaded [over burdened] is because we insist on controlling too many things in our lives, even the things that are outside of our control. The greater our need for control, the higher our level of stress. The yoke is a device that connects two animals for the purpose of making the load lighter. Where the animals are the same, the load actually becomes less than half for each animal. But where one animal is smaller or weaker, the stronger animal does most of the work. The weaker and smaller animal most times ends up damaged because it is an unequal yoke. How then can a mortal be yoked to an immortal God? By a miracle!

Matt. 11:30 “For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” (NIV) The word easy in the Greek means custom made, a perfect fit. The yoke Jesus is offering you and I is custom made so that there will be no bruises or damage while He carries the heavy load. Your yoke with Christ is custom fit, no one else can wear it but you. No matter how much the groom loves his bride, he cannot go for her gown fitting in her stead. Similarly, you need to go to Jesus for your fitting. His yoke will make your life easy and your burden light.

When Jesus offers us His yoke, what He is saying in essence is that He wants to come side by side us. Jesus wants to be yoked with you – connected to you! I suggest you just stop and let the beauty of this truth sink in. The yoke is a symbol of partnership and of surrender. If you are feeling stressed and over loaded, it means you are not yoked with Christ. You are on your way to heaven but your life is like an oven. When you are “yoked” with Christ, you move together in the same DIRECTION and at the same PACE.  God has great plans for you.
