Catalyst Conference: A Week Of Change預覽
Day 6
Read 2 Timothy 2.22-26
Today we’re digging into more of the apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy. That first phrase, “avoid the passions of youth,” jumps off the page, doesn’t it? What does that mean? According to New Testament scholar Gordon Fee, “Paul is not so much speaking of sensual passions as he is those kinds of headstrong passions of youth, who sometimes love novelties, foolish discussions, and arguments that all too often lead to quarrels.”
It can be difficult to figure out when the conversation is productive and when it’s time to conclude. Sometimes it’s really obvious. Paul gives Timothy some valuable advice. Consider the attitude behind our words. Are we talking about Jesus and the Holy Scriptures with an attitude of righteousness, faith, love, gentleness, peace, and patience?
In other words, are we saying what God wants us to say in the way God wants us to say it?
As we lead others, our attitude will speak just as loudly as our words. We need to do our best to share a biblical perspective in a way that values the other person; keeping in mind they will accept or reject what we share. It’s their decision. We love them if they agree or disagree.
There are times when we don’t have a good answer. We need to suck up our pride and admit we don’t know.
Our goal is not to merely win an argument: it’s to lead people to Jesus, not just with words, but also by living our lives as an example of His Kingdom come. Responding with kindness and patience shows the difference Christ makes in our lives and opens the door for more conversations about the One who’s transformed us.
We want to be change makers and see people come into a relationship with Christ and take bold steps for Him. We want people to understand the truth about God’s love and all that He’s done for us. May our attitude and words demonstrate truth, love and gentleness.
Prayer
I need Your help to do this, Holy Spirit. Please lead me to the people with whom You want me to talk about Jesus. Give me the words to say and a godly attitude through it all. Help me to resist the foolish discussions that are a waste of time. Use me to radiate bold change as I lead and as I relate to my community. Thank You that You’re with me and that You are empowering me. Amen.
Going Deeper
Who are the people that aggravate you with their combative or foolish conversations? How do you think God wants you to respond to them?
關於此計劃
We’re challenging leaders who love the Church to break the boundaries of an ordinary existence and find the courage to embrace and radiate bold change. Let’s dig into the Holy Scriptures with this seven-day reading plan developed with our friends at American Bible Society. We’ll focus on internal change and external change. We’ll align ourselves with the ultimate change maker and the bold change God has for us.
