[The Love Of God] Comfort 預覽
We Are All Looking For Some Comfort
What I am about to say may sound strong and negative, but it is a universal, undeniable truth: Suffering comes with living. Every living thing goes through some sort of suffering in the duration of its life. Animals suffer, plants suffer, humans suffer. It is a part of life. And it is also an undeniable truth that we, as human beings, look for some sort of comfort to ease that suffering. Every single person we meet has looked for comfort, is looking for comfort, or will look for comfort. There is no way to escape from it. It does not matter what we believe in, even if we don’t believe in anything. We all need comfort.
We were made to need comfort. We seek comfort all the time, even when we do not realize it. Sometimes we seek comfort in shallow, quick things. We might go to food for comfort. Some of us go to shopping, technology, tv, movies, pornography, noise, or addictions for some form of comfort. Maybe that quick fix of fake comfort gives us some sort of control over our lives.
Do we value immediate comfort over real happiness? Do we go to the quick things instead of going to the deep things? Even when we turn to God for comfort, are we looking for something quick or something eternal? C. S. Lewis said that the ending goal of Christianity was not personal comfort, but a relationship with God. And from that relationship comes the deepest and most real form of comfort we could ever dream of.
We have all been hurt, we are all wounded and lonely, we have all felt guilty, we all make mistakes and lack control over so many things in our lives. But we can submit all of that to God, and in return He promises us His faithful love that comforts us. We can think of His love as the rope that rock climbers use. It is there whether they need it or not. The same thing goes for the love of God in our lives—it does not matter if we succeed or fail, whether we are in joy or in pain, we will always need the rope of the comforting love of God.
